"Back to Future Polka", released May 1, 2011, was produced and engineered by Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Dub Trio, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Matisyahu). The songs range from Dan's traditional family music to familiar polka hits, and include techno and dubstep remixes for the next generation. This six-song EP is an overture to the planned full-length album in 2013.

The BEETBOX BAND from Cape Cod play high-energy roots music, including bluegrass, Americana, klezmer, and polka. Their rowdy live shows get the crowd dancing and singing along. Bandleader "Polka" Dan Blajda is a 5th-generation fiddler from a family of musicians in Poland's beet-farming region. Clayton March plays clarinet, banjo, and sax. He is a music teacher by day, and plays every week all over Cape Cod, often with bassist and songwriter Greg Johnson (formerly of bluegrass band Raw Honey). Robin Johnson plays piano, and is a writer by day. David Silver plays the drums, using an unusual stand up cocktail kit.

Please join us in preserving the incredible music and culture of Polka!

A polka apocalypse is unfolding. Apolkalypse.

Traditional village polka music is all but forgotten. This rich cultural heritage encapsulates many lineages of eastern European roots music. Each year, there are fewer polka bands, and fewer record labels releasing polka music. The Grammys have discontinued the Best Polka Album category.

The Beetbox Band is on a mission to preserve all kinds of roots music and revitalize polka for the next generation. "Polka Dan" Blajda is a fifth-generation polka musician. For hundreds of years, Dan's relatives, the Pudelkow family, were a village band in Poland's beet-farming region. (The family name translates to "box", as in a box to carry beets, hence beetbox.) But, the family band has retired their instruments and band costumes to a local museum, and the music is no longer played.

Cape Cod's eclectic artist community has shown excited support of the Beetbox Band, and a new root music crowd is emerging. Shows have drawn increasing crowds, and a surprising number of younger attendees who come to dress up and dance.

Track Name: Black Hat
Lyrics are: one, two, one, two!
Track Name: Hoop Dee Doo
Hoop-dee-doo, hoop-dee-doo
I hear a polka and my troubles are through
Hoop-dee-doo, hoop-dee-dee
This kind of music is like heaven to me
Hoop-dee-doo, hoop-dee-doo
Has got me higher than a kite
Hand me down my soup and fish
I am gonna get my wish
Hoop-dee-doin' it tonight

When there's a trombone playin'
I get a thrill, I always will
When there's a concertina stretched about a mile
I always smile 'cause that's my style
When there's a fiddle in the middle
Oh, it really is a riddle how he plays a tune so sweet
Plays a tune so sweet that I could die
Lead me to the floor and hear me yell for more
'Cause I'm a hoop-dee-doin' kind of guy

(Hoop-dee-doo), hoop-dee-doo
(Hoop-dee-doo), hoop-de-doo
(I hear a polka and my troubles are through)
Ha, ha, ha
(Hoop-dee-doo), hoop-dee-doo
(Hoop-dee-dee) hoop-de-dee
(This kind of music is like heaven to me)
Oh, hoop-dee-doo (hoop-hee-doo)
Hoop-dee-doo (hoop-Dee-Doo)

Has got me higher than a kite
Hand me down my soup and fish
I am gonna get my wish
Hoop-dee-doin' it tonight
(When there's a trombone playin')
Ah, ha, ha, ha
I get a thrill, I always will
(When there's a concertina stretched about a mile
I always smile
'Cause that's my style
When there's a fiddle in the middle
Oh, it really is a riddle how he plays a tune so sweet
(Plays a tune so sweet that we could die)
Ah, yes lead me to the floor and hear me yell for more
'Cause I'm a hoop-dee-doin' kind of guy

Ooooh, hoop-dee-doo, hoop-dee-doo
It's got us higher than a kite
They're in clover, we're in bloom
When we're dancin' give us room
Hoop-de-doin' it with all of our might
Rain may fall and snow may come
Nothin's gonna stop us from
Hoop-dee-doin' it
Hoop-dee-doin' it
Hoop-dee-doin' it tonight
